Talisay owes pump station more than P1 million

CEBU, Philippines - Without warning, the Shell gasoline station in barangay Bulacao in Talisay City that provides gasoline on credit to the city’s government service vehicles and police patrol cars ceased being helpful  Tuesday on account of the city’s unpaid debt of more than a million pesos.

It bothered Superintendent Resty Santos, officer-in-charge of Talisay City Police Station.

But at past 12:00 p.m. yesterday, Mayor Johnny de los Reyes told Santos not to worry and that police vehicles can line up again at the station for gasoline.

Edwin Nierves, head of the Solid Waste Management, told The Freeman the gasoline station turned down the city’s garbage trucks Tuesday evening and yesterday morning.

The mayor said the station will again accommodate city vehicles but did not say when the city’s obligation would be paid.

Money owed the pump station totals more than a million pesos, a portion of which was incurred by the previous administration.

But the mayor isn’t happy with the 6-percent markup that the station has included in its bills.

De los Reyes said the station management has added the amount because of delayed payment.

He said the city might look for another gasoline station that can offer a better price and one that won’t impose a 6 percent markup. — (FREEMAN)
