CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Valeriano Q. Ylanan, who is the chairman of the committee on parks and playground, said lack of money prevents the development of parks and plazas, such areas having the potential to attract tourists.
The city wishes to beautify and renovate old and existing parks and plazas but would need P1.150 million to carry it out.
For this purpose, Ylanan, through a resolution, has asked Governor Hilario Davide III for P300,000; Vice Governor Agnes A. Magpale P200,000; board members Julian B. Daan, Raul Alcoseba, and Peter John Calderon P150,000 each, and Mayor Johnny De los Reyes P200,000.
“It is in the best interest of the City of Talisay to develop and maintain public parks, plazas, playgrounds, and other open spaces to enhance the environment, and preserve ecological balance,†Ylanan said.
As per Department of Environment of Natural Resources Memorandum Order No. 13 dated November 8, 1988, “the cities, municipalities, and barangays concerned shall be responsible for the establishment, maintenance, and protection of their forest/tree parks.†– (FREEMAN)
