Development of Paknaan relocation site hastened

CEBU, Philippines - The development of the 6.5-hectare relocation site in barangay Paknaan in Mandaue City is being hastened so as to encourage the 1,200 families who live along waterways to relocate to the area.

There are now 100 families at the site.

An additional 30 houses will also be built before month’s end.

Tony Pet Juanico, housing and home site regulation officer, said the city has built an access road and is talking with officials with the Visayan Electric Company and the Metropolitan Cebu Water District for the supply of water and power.

He also said the city saved money when the  Cebu Contractors Association donated the filling materials.

The association will also help in the construction of a day care center for the beneficiaries’ children in partnership  with the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Cebu Chapter.

HUDO said the site can no longer accommodate the ten families who lost their homes in a landslide last week.

However, the city has assured to look for a relocation for them, which is now negotiating with a lot owner for the purchase of a two-hectare property in barangay Casuntingan.

The city will also coordinate with the barangay captain of Canduman to see if the affected families can also be accommodated at the Kobe housing. (FREEMAN)
