Mandaue City officials give recognition to Romanian envoy, Consul Benedicto

CEBU, Philippines - Romanian Ambassador to the Philippines Valeriu T. Gheorghe and Philippine Consul General to Romania, Grand Benedicto received a plaque of recognition and a “Resolution of Appreciation and Gratitude” from the city government of Mandaue for facilitating the twinning and sister-city relations between the city of Bacau in Romania and Mandaue City.

The 13th Sangguniang Panlungsod in a special session yesterday afternoon approved en masse the proposed resolution authored by majority leader Councilor Diosdado P. Suico “wholeheartedly expressing the Mandaue City officials’ sincere appreciation and profound gratitude to Ambassador of Romania to the Philippines for his magnificent efforts and valued support in successfully bridging the twinning and sisterhood relations” between the two cities.

The council also approved a similar resolution acknowledging the contribution of Philippine Consul General Grand Benedicto, a Cebuano, for opening the “floodgates of success” of the sisterhood agreement.

The agreement was signed on January 30, 2009 in Mandaue City between Romanian and Bacau officials led by Ambassador Gheorghe and Engr. Romeo Stavarache, Bacau City Mayor.

The outgoing ambassador in his brief speech thanked the city officials for the hospitality and preparations for the success of his visit.

Bacau City is a major city in Bacau Country in Romania located at the historic region of Moldavia.

Mayor Cortes later told media men both camps are now working for a socio-cultural exchange program with emphasis on sending public school teachers to Romania. (FREEMAN)
