CEBU, Philippines - Some 80 employees including department heads of the local government unit of Mandaue City attended a two-day seminar-workshop on “Knowledge Management†or data banking last June 5 and 6 at the Bantay Mandaue command center.
Conducted by the Local Government Academy (LGA), a training arm of DILG and concurrently the National Governance Resource Center, the activity was organized by the Department of Interior and Local Government-Mandaue City in coordination with the city’s Office of Strategic Management-Performance Governance System.
According to City DILG Director Jhoaden Lucero the training-workshop is a step towards making the city a “knowledge-centric organization.â€
Daphne Purnel and Euly Enrique, resource speakers from LGA emphasized the need to come up with an inventory of all the explicit and tacit information, data and knowledge, create, store, share, and apply these for the purpose of improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the local government unit (LGU) in implementing its vision.
According to Purnel, Mandaue City is the first LGU at least in Cebu that is determined to implement “Knowledge Management.â€
Assisted by the Institute of Solidarity in Asia, LGU- Mandaue is in the process of aligning every department’s programs, objectives, measures, and projects towards the attainment of the city’s vision: making the city the premier business destination in Central Philippines with a community free from want and environment friendly to man, nurturing life through culture, arts and sports.â€
City Administrator lawyer James Abadia said the city is rich in data and it is a matter of organizing it to the benefit of internal and external stakeholders. (FREEMAN)
