CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City College president Dr. Tomas Ramos is serving a 30-day preventive suspension for his alleged involvement in the collection of school fees without issuing receipts and for his alleged failure to remit the money to the city treasurer.
Last May 24, Mayor Socrates Fernandez, chairman of BOT, suspended Ramos to give way to an investigation.
The Audit Observation Memorandum (AOM) of the Commission on Audit AOM stated that P10,553,270 was collected by the college during school years 2008-2009 and 2012-2013.
Talisay City College is managed by Talisay City.
The AOM also stated that Ramos disbursed cash from the fund without the approval of the board of trustees (BOT).
On the other hand, city Councilor Dennis Basillote, chairman on the committee on education of the city council and member of the board of trustees, said Ramos did not present any program of works or receipts of any project he initiated for the college.
Basillote said Ramos only presented pictures of projects without supporting these with documents such as programs of works and receipts.
Basillote said the board has no knowledge about the collection of school fees and where the money went. (FREEMAN)
