Talisay dad sees privatization of garbage collection nearing

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City Councilor Bernard Joseph T. Odilao, chairman of the committee on environment, is confident his aim to privatize the collection of garbage in the city will be achieved before his term ends on June 30.

Odilao, who is on his third and last term, agrees with the proposal to authorize Mayor Socrates Fernandez to enter into an agreement with EVO ventures, a private company engaged in solid waste management and garbage collection.

The EVO ventures Inc., a privately owned company, which specializes in solid waste management had volunteered to assess the city’s solid waste management.

Based on its findings, there is a need to properly manage waste collection and disposal because as of this date, the waste pond has been used up because there is no proper segregation of waste, Odilao said.  (FREEMAN)
