Paz to help family of slain city hall worker

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza will extend assistance to the slain city hall employee who was robbed and killed by her own nephew Monday dawn.

Radaza described Flora Amodia, an employee assigned at the City Assessor’s Office, as an employee extremely dedicated to her work.

Charges of robbery with homicide will be filed against the two men linked to the death of the city hall worker.

Although Richard Amodia had already admitted killing Flora Amodia, Lapu-Lapu City Police Office Chief Rey Lyndon Lawas said the police will still gather affidavits and evidence as a “judicial confession” could be recanted anytime.

The woman’s eight-year-old niece has executed an affidavit.

The niece who slept with her when the crime was committed said she noticed a man entering their house but she couldn’t recall the time.

She said she only kept on observing him but she eventually fell asleep.

Richard was caught by the police on the same day the woman was found dead in the kitchen of her house in sitio Kapilis, barangay Suba-Basbas, Lapu-Lapu City.

Before Richard’s arrest, a tanod saw Mario Cueco, 42, selling pieces of jewelry.

Cueco said Richard asked him to sell the items and that he was not aware the items were stolen.

Lawas said Cueco is considered an accessory to the crime.

The police recovered a wrist watch, a necklace, a gold ring, and an empty wallet from the two men.

Also recovered were a 22-inch bolo, which the Richard allegedly used to kill the woman, and the short pants he wore during the killing.

Lawas said he was glad his men were able to solve the crime in less than 24 hours.

He is also grateful to the officials of Suba-Basbas for helping the police arrest the two men.  (FREEMAN)
