Over 1,000 farm animals in Naga City vaccinated

CEBU, Philippines - Naga City, in an attempt to control diseases affecting livestock, has vaccinated and dewormed over 1,000 farm animals.

City veterinary officer Dr. Raymundo Ramirez said the city has vaccinated 1,212 farm animals from February to March this year in Alpaco, Cabungahan, Bairan, Patag, and Jaguimit.

Ramirez said the free vaccinations and deworming were in support of President Aquino’s food security and self-sufficiency program.

Records show goats topped the number of vaccinated livestock at 615 followed by 388 head of cattle and 209 carabaos.

The vaccination is part of the CVO’s anti-rabies campaign to ensure that this industrialized city is rabies-free.

Ramirez said the city also distributed free multivitamins to prevent domesticated animals from getting afflicted with diseases such as hemorrhagic septicemia.

The program has benefited 378 livestock farmers.  (FREEMAN)
