Cebu, Philippines - The Cultural, Historical, Educational, Sports, and Tourism (Chest) Foundation yesterday said the Search for Mandaue City’s Most Outstanding Graduate is now open.
Dr. Susana Cabahug, the past president of CHEST and a representative of the Cabahug clan, yesterday announced during a press conference the clan will mark the 122nd Sotero Cabahug Day this year and part of the activities is the awarding of the city’s most outstanding graduate.
The awarding ceremony will be held on April 22.
With this, the foundation is now encouraging all students that graduated summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and even high school valedictorians to become nominees.
Cabahug said the medal is given annually to encourage Mandaue residents who are mostly relatives and descendants of the late chief Justice to excel in their studies.
She said 50 applicants are expected this year.
Forty-five have applied, interviewed, and screened.
Although there were 3 medalists in 2011, this year only one will receive the 18-karat gold “Cabahug Medal for Academic Excellence Award.â€
So far, 68 have received the medal, and 40 of them are still alive.
