CEBU, Philippines - Barangay Linao captain Ofelia Ylanan plans to prevent all city’s garbage trucks from using the road in Linao that leads to the sanitary landfill in barangay Tapul.
Ylanan said the road is unpaved and the city government has not taken steps to improve it.
At least some 96,201 square meters of Tapul’s hilly part has been converted into a sanitary landfill, which opened last December 2005 in compliance with the law.
“We are filing a barangay resolution to object to the passing of garbage trucks on our road,†Ylanan said.
But city administrator Ritchel Bacaltos, in a separate interview, said Ylanan’s plan would be opposed because there is no other route for the trucks to take in going to Tapul.
Bacaltos said if the barangay pushes through with its move, he will take the matter to the city legal office for action.
“Dili na mahimo kay it’s an access road. We will consult our city legal office about it. She will be liable if she blocks the passage of the city’s garbage trucks,†Bacaltos said. (FREEMAN)
