Talisay wary of water-borne diseases

CEBU, Philippines - In response to the alarming reports on water-borne diseases and possible outbreak, Talisay City Councilor Richard Francis F. Aznar, chairman of the committee on health, wants the city health department to check all water sources in the city.

Last year, it was found out that a water source in one of the mountainous barangays was contaminated by E. and was immediately addressed by the City Health Office.

Aznar said the city government is at its optimum course in adopting pro-active measures to avoid a possible outbreak.

“The City Health Office is properly equipped to administer such sample tests to ensure the potability of water in all water sources of the City of Talisay,” he said.

Earlier, four people died from typhoid fever while over 600 other cases have been reported in Tuburan town in Cebu.

Dr. Cristina Giango, chief of the Integrated Provincial Health Office, said 646 cases of the water-borne disease were reported by hospitals.

At Tuburan District Hospital, 109 were admitted while Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City registered 14 patients. – (FREEMAN)
