PUJ drivers sore at Radaza Paz appeals for sympathy

CEBU, Philippines - Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza has appealed to jeepney drivers not to take offense after she suggested that the riding public take the ferry boats while the Mandaue Mactan Bridge is being repaired.

She made it clear that her intention is to make vehicular traffic as light as possible at the bridge that connects Lapu-Lapu with Mandaue City.

Drivers have complained that their earnings had shrank after the mayor endorsed the ferry boats.

“Temporary ra man ni. Hinaut unta mosabot ang mga jeepney driver. Sa pagkakaron mo-kooperar lang sa ta para madali ang pag-ayo sa bridge,” Radaza said.

She said traffic enforcers are working hard to make sure that traffic at the bridge flows smoothly.

At present, repair work at the bridge will cost P18 million and will run for 90 calendar days.

When the repairs are over, rehabilitation of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge will start.

It will cost P27 million for the asphalt overlay and repair of two expansion joints.

Work is expected to stretch for 90 calendar days. (FREEMAN)
