Freeman Metro Cebu

Duranos getting ready

Jose P. Sollano - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - With still more than two weeks to go before the campaign period commences in the local level, the Duranos, the protagonists in the May 13 elections in Danao City, are consolidating their forces.

Vice Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, who is seeking the mayoralty post his older brother Mayor Ramon “Boy” Durano Jr. is also vying for, claims to have the support of 36 of the 42 barangay captains.

Nito has met his political leaders and supporters in the barangays to tell them about his plans and programs once he wins the mayoralty.

He has the support of his son, Congressman Ramon “Red” Durano VI, who is seeking the vice mayoralty post.

Red’s brother Joseph Ace Durano, former secretary of the Department of Tourism, will replace Red as representative of the fifth district.

The One Cebu Party has no strong candidate who will run against Ace.

The Freeman also learned that Mayor Boy Durano, who has the support of his brother, former mayor Jesus “Don” Durano, is confident of getting reelected.

Mayor Boy Durano and Nito Durano joined forces in the last May 10, 2010 elections, but broke up a month after the election.

For the vice governor race, acting Governor Agnes Magpale has the support of the camp of Vice Mayor Nito Durano.

On the other hand, Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV is dependent of the support of his father Mayor Boy Durano and uncle former mayor Jesus “Don” Durano.

Boboy said his experience as former barangay captain, vice mayor, city administrator, and director of the Development Bank of the Philippines would help him become an effective vice governor of the province.  (FREEMAN)
