CEBU, Philippines - The Naga City jail is bursting at the seams: it only has room for 50 inmates.
Now picture 82 inmates inside that jail that looks like every inch a detention cell.
Who wouldn’t give a limb to get out of there?
Mayor Valdemar Chiong is conscious of the problem and now wants a bigger jail built at a 4,000-square meter lot in barangay Naalad, which is close to a public cemetery.
But Chiong has yet to inform the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) about his plan, which would require a budget.
The city pays for some equipment and vehicles the BJMP uses to help it function efficiently.
On the other hand, Chiong also plans to renovate the police station.
He said the police station should have offices for the Theft and Robbery Section, Traffic Section, Crimes Against Persons Desk, City Intelligence Branch, and the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD).
He also wants the city to have its own Special Weapons and Tactics. (FREEMAN)
