In Talisay City PUJ driver arrested for bumping traffic enforcer

CEBU, Philippines - A jeepney driver was arrested Monday for bumping a traffic enforcer at the national highway in barangay Tabunok, Talisay City.

Joselito Camonesta Jr., 31, of Valladolid, Carcar City, is being detained at the Talisay City detention cell.

It was alleged that Camonesta was not pleased after being confronted by traffic enforcer Malorenze Manreal, 34, of Talisay City for picking up passengers at a “No Stopping” area.

Almond Keith Dela Peña, chief of traffic enforcers, said the enforcer had asked for Camonesta’s driver’s license but instead of handing it over to Manreal, he sped away and told Manreal he was coming back.

At around 6:00 p.m. on the same day, Camonesta allegedly again stopped and pick passengers at the very same area and was again confronted by Manreal.

Manreal again asked for his license but Camonesta again sped away.

But this time Manreal chased him and was intercepted near the Saint Joseph Parish Church in Tabunok.

The enforcer blocked the jeepney’s path and asked the driver again for his license but Camonesta again refused to surrender his license and then, allegedly bumped Manreal.

Manreal fell and sustained injuries.

Camonesta was caught by other enforcers who were near the area and was turned over to the police.

Manreal was immediately taken to hospital.

On other hand, Vice Mayor Alan Bucao, chairman of City of Talisay Traffic Operation Development Authority (CT-TODA), said he will not allow erring motorists to bully traffic enforcers.

He said the city will do everything to protect enforcers who do their jobs well. (FREEMAN)
