Eddiegul: Commitment with Pablo John stays

CEBU, Philippines - Rep. Eduardo Gullas, chairman of the homegrown party “Alayon,” again said he is behind One Cebu Party’s gubernatorial bet Rep. Pablo John Garcia and acting Governor Agnes Magpale as the Liberal Party’s bet for vice governor.

The Liberal Party’s bet in the gubernatorial race is Hilario Davide III, who ran in 2010 but lost by Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

In an interview with reporters in Minglanilla town, Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, who is running unopposed for the congressional seat in the district, said the congressman has been an ally of Garcia’s One Cebu party in the previous election and the commitment they have to Pablo John remains.

In deference to Gullas, One Cebu Party is not fielding candidates in the first district.

Talks had it that Gullas would support Davide if he and the rest of Cebu’s first district mayors attended the LP rally in Tabunok sports complex last week.

“Our commitment with Congressman Pablo John Garcia remains. We will be supporting him for governor,” Samsam said.

But he said they will support Davide’s running mate Agnes Magpale for vice governor.

Rep. Gullas, who is running for Talisay City mayor, will face LP mayoralty candidate Johnny delos Reyes.

Gullas supports the administration of President Benigno Aquino III since Alayon is affiliated with the Nacionalista Party, which is part of the administration coalition.

All the other local chief executives in Cebu’s first district are supporting Garcia.

Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong said they are doing this because of their gratitude to the congressman’s sister, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Chiong, who is a member of the Alayon Party of Rep. Eduardo R. Gullas (Cebu, first district), said Gov. Garcia has poured several projects into the first district, including the City of Naga, since she became governor in 2004. (FREEMAN)
