In Talisay City LP standard bearer denies disunity yarn

CEBU, Philippines - Talisay City mayoralty candidate and Liberal Party standard bearer Johnny delos Reyes yesterday denied claims allegedly made by the administration party that he and his party mates can’t get their act together.

Talks have been circulating that three of the LP aspirants for councilor, namely, Lee Consul, Dumlog barangay councilman Aldin Diaz, and Bensing Raguindin  have been campaigning on their own without authorization from the party.

Reports also claim that Consul, Diaz, and Raguindin never mention the names of de los Reyes and city Councilor Romeo Villarante, who is vying for a vice mayoral post, when they meet with barangay residents.

But delos Reyes said the LP in the city is far from divided.

“We work as a team and they have our consent,” delos Reyes said.

For his part, Villarante said that immaturity has no place in the election and it has no issue.

“It’s a non-issue considering the election will start on March 29,” Villarante said, adding that the talks are part of the black propaganda, which might be good for the LP in the end.

Villarante said that they have encouraged their group to work hard by covering as many areas as possible.

But Comelec chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. said that local candidates may have to take at least a day off from the campaign period because the start of the campaign period, March 29, falls on Good Friday.

Brillantes said to campaign on Good Friday is “expressly prohibited by law,” so local candidates “cannot officially campaign until March 30,” Black Saturday.  (FREEMAN)
