CEBU, Philippines - A man’s body was recovered yesterday noon after drowning while swimming with two friends at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon at the Cabahug wharf in barangay Looc, Mandaue City.
Roberto Capiznon, 22, single, of barangay Mantuyong, Mandaue City just arrived from Manila three days ago and, after making new friends, decided to have a swim near the Cabahug wharf.
Opao police station chief PSr./Insp. Stephen Amamag-id said that the three men first had drinks before jumping into the water.
Amamag-id said Capiznon had strayed into a deeper part and, not knowing how to swim, drowned.
His friends were helpless for they too do not know how to swim.
They just sought for help. Capiznon’s body was later found underneath the M/V Maria Angelica Grace barge.
The Philippine Coastguard and a rescue team from the Bureau of Fire in Mandaue City later helped but stopped the search at around 6:45 p.m. last Monday due to zero visibility.
The body was found through the efforts of Capiznon’s relatives at around 11 a.m. yesterday. (FREEMAN)
