Man swindles teller of money changer shop

CEBU, Philippines - The police are now looking for a man who duped an employee of a money changer shop in Mandaue City of P122,000 the other day.

Police said the man is known as “Father Glenn” who allegedly hails from Mindanao.

He was positively identified by his victim Anthony Lauron, 34, teller of VHEZ Money Changer which is located inside the Colonnade Mall in barangay Centro, Mandaue City.

Lauron identified the man by going through the Rouges Gallery of the Investigative and Detective Management Bureau.

According to IDMB Deputy chief P/Insp. Ramil Morpos, said the man had also duped two Koreans in 2011 at the Basilica del Sto. Niño.

The man pretended to be a priest and told Koreans he will take their photos since they are forbidden to get inside the Basilica.

However, before giving the camera to him, the Koreans took a picture of the man with their cellular phone.

But after they gave him the camera, the man never came back, prompting the Koreans to give his photo to the police.

It was learned that the money changer shop lost P122,400 to the suspect.

That day the man who pretended to be a client wanted money equivalent to $3,000 delivered to the National Shrine of St. Joseph which is just a few meters away from the shop.

The establishment owner then told shop teller Lauron to deliver the money to a certain Dr. Cortes or Dr. Miguel Cortes in the church.

But as he left the shop and was already outside the mall, he was met by a man who claimed he was Dr. Cortes who then approached him and brought him to the church convent.

They talked and after a while the man asked for the money from Lauron.

After handing over the cash, the man told Lauron to wait while he went out to get the $3,000 from his mother who he said was praying inside the church.

However, the man never came back and this prompted him to report the matter to the police.

Morpos has asked the public to report to the police through tel. nos. 318-5173 or 3436376 about the man’s whereabouts.  (FREEMAN)
