CEBU, Philippines - A 16-year-old boy was arrested Wednesday evening for allegedly stabbing to death a taxicab driver in sitio Caimito, barangay Basak-San Nicolas, Cebu City.
Driver of Tiger Taxi Ruben Lapeña Sacedon, Jr., 43, of 58-B Don Bosco Road, barangay Punta Princesa, was declared dead a few hours after arriving at the Cebu City Medical Center with multiple stab wounds in the different parts of his body.
The assailant, who is from barangay Mambaling, was arrested by bystanders after a brief chase with the taxi driver.
Prior to the incident, the juvenile flagged down Sacedon’s taxi in Mambaling and asked to be taken to barangay San Isidro, Talisay City at around 9:00 in the evening.
In San Isidro, Sacedon’s passenger told him he didn’t have his wallet with him and again asked to be driven back to barangay Basak-San Nicolas so he could borrow some money from his godfather to pay for his fare.
“Ingon man nga adto na lang naog kay iyang ninong tua ngadto manghulam siya og kwarta,” SPO1 Ruth Violango, homicide investigator, said.
Joseph Años alleged he was sitting on a wooden bench with a group of people when he saw a young man running towards them, a taxicab behind him.
The juvenile stopped before the group and Sacedon immediately made a hand signal indicating he was stabbed by the juvenile. This prompted Años to hold the juvenile. He sought police assistance.
Police took Sacedon to the hospital but was declared dead a few hours later.
Police recovered a knife inside the taxicab.
The juvenile is now detained at the Mambaling stockade. (FREEMAN)
