Talisay plans to rehabilitate, build farm-to-market roads

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City government plans to construct and rehabilitate farm-to-market roads in the mountain barangays.

But Department of Agriculture Undersecretary for Operations Joel Rudinas wants the templates of basic information and map showing the locations of the proposed roads to be constructed and rehabilitated submitted to the Department of Agriculture for funding and site validation.

The city council has asked President Benigno Simeon Aquino III to set aside P50 million for the projects in barangays Candulawan, Tapul, and Jaclupan.

Rudinas has tasked the regional office to properly provide the main office the basic information and maps necessary for the initial and evaluation of the projects.

City councilors Rodolfo “Rodi” Cabigas, chairman, committee on public works and infrastructure, said that repair of the roads in these areas will greatly improve the accessibility of farmers to the centers of economic activity.

Cabigas said the city government has initiated various efforts to address the problem on rehabilitation of roads from farm to market but resulted to palliative solutions considering the financial constraint due to lack of funds.

“The city government aims to answer the long clamor of our people to have quality infrastructure projects that will give convenience and comfort to the riding public from farm to market especially from the upland barangays,” Cabigas said. (FREEMAN)
