CEBU, Philippines - Local officials in Metro Cebu applaud the Department of Interior and Local Government’s plan to include Cebu in its list of places that would be given fire trucks.
DILG Undersecretary Francisco “Bimbo” Fernandez said his department is aware of the problem.
Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes said he had informed DILG Secretary Mar Roxas about the lack of fire trucks in the city.
Cortes said he had made the same request to the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo.
Some of the fire trucks in Mandaue City were purchased during the administration of Cortes’ father, the late Mayor Demetrio Cortes, Sr.
In Consolacion, Mayor Teresa Alegado said her town needs fire trucks on account of an increasing population.
She said fire sub-stations will go up once the town receives fire trucks.
Other places that are in dire need of fire trucks are Danao and Lapu-Lapu cities and the neighboring towns of Cordova, Liloan, and Compostela.
