CEBU, Philippines - Two Korean nationals who were charged with violation of Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines posted bail yesterday.

Yang Seung Joon, the owner of KJ Motors Supply and Kim Ill Young, the shop’s mechanic consultant, have posted P120,000 each for their temporary liberty.

The two were assisted by their counsel Richard Bauzon.

During the inquest proceeding last Wednesday, the two men chose not to file counter-affidavits and will rather face the charges in court.

Earlier, the NBI led by special investigator Larry Dominquez served a search warrant on Joon for alleged violation of Section 360 paragraph (4) of Republic Act 1937 as amended by presidential Decree 1464 in relation to Section 3 (3.1) of Executive Order 156.

The warrant was issued by Judge Teresita Galanida of Regional Trial Court Branch 56 in Mandaue City.

Dominquez said Joon could not produce a certificate of registration, custom payment, and other documents.

The NBI had seized 23 Korean used vehicles valued at P10 million.

The vehicles recovered were “newly assembled where the upper portions were attached to the main body as evidenced by the welding joints.”

The seized vehicles were 3 Sta Fe, 3 Kia Sorento, one Kia Vesto, one Ssanyong Kurando, 2 Hyundai Trajet, 3 Starex, 2 Kia x-Trek, one Hyundai Feraca, 2 Kia Carnival, one Carens, and 4 Sportage.

“We have paid all our obligations,” Joon told Prosecutor Wilfredo Panganduyon, Jr.  (FREEMAN)
