CEBU, Philippines - A man shot Saturday a neighbor in Upper Sampaguita in barangay Banilad, Mandaue City who he suspected of being a peeping tom.
Melvin Gonzales, 32, died several hours later in hospital.
Dionedy Salem Sr., 47, married, surrendered to the police.
PO1 Ronald Manlangit of the Casuntingan police station said last Sunday Gonzales allegedly secretly watched Salem’s daughter, who works as a call center agent, bathe.
Rumors about the alleged peeping incident quickly spread in the neighborhood, and Gonzales’ live-in partner getting wind of it.
Soon the couple was quarreling.
Gonzales allegedly confronted the Salem family about the rumors and ended getting shot.
The wife, who saw the shooting, claimed that after Gonzales was shot, he ran back to his house but was chased by Salem’s son who was armed with a bolo.
But the son fled before the police arrived while Salem Sr. surrendered.
The police couldn’t find the gun. Salem said he threw it away.
Murder cases have been filed against Salem Sr. who is currently detained at the Casuntingan Police station and his son who remains at large. (FREEMAN)
