CEBU, Philippines — The Architects+Engineers Basketball Association (A+EBA) 8th Corporate Cup kicked off last night (Friday, March 14) at the University of Carlos (USC)-Downtown Campus gymnasium along Sanciangko Street in Cebu City.

A dozen teams are taking part in the four-month cage wars, as announced by A+EBA officials Alan Choachuy and Josephril Partosa in a press conference last Thursday, March 13, at the Golden Prince Hotel.

Slugging it out for the coveted crown are Avantrac, Kinsman, Phelps Dodge, Buildrite, EGS, RBR, Johnro, Litecrete, Island Paints, Mortabond, Dwight Steel and Capitol Engineering.

They will play a single round robin in the elimination. Only eight teams will advance to the quarterfinals, with the top two qualifiers enjoying a twice-to-beat advantage over their lower-ranked rivals.

The winners will proceed to the knockout semifinals and then to the championship, which is also a winner-take-all affair.

To make sure that all players will be given a playing time, the “barangayan” system will be implemented in the first half.

Each team will also have two imports from their designated sponsors, making the competition more exciting.
