Welec nails back-to-back wins in Sinulog Cup

CEBU, Philippines — The Welec Trucking Services x AMC rallied past the University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters, 68-62, for its second straight victory in the Sinulog Cup 2025 Basketball Tournament on Wednesday evening, January 22, at the Cebu Coliseum.

Welec trailed by seven points, 27-34, late in the first half, but charged back with savvy to forge a 39-all deadlock before going on a 6-0 tear to wrest the upper hand, 55-49, for good early in the fourth quarter.

Kent Ivo Salarda once again starred for Welec with 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

Raul Gentallan was the only other double-digit scorer for Welec with 10 points, one rebound, three assists and two steals.

Ricofer Sordilla paced the Webmasters with 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.

Reggie Dajab had 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists while Danie Boy Lapiz finished with 10 points and two rebounds in a losing effort for UC, which fell to 1-1.

On the other hand, the RKF Iloilo Royals kicked off their title bid with an 88-64 rout of the Cebu City selection.

Cedrick Manzano netted a double-double for RKF with 17 points and 11 rebounds laced with two assists, two steals and three blocks in an all-around hardcourt brilliance.

Wilmer Dalumpines also tallied 17 markers while Jay Pee Belencion cashed in 14 points, two rebounds and three assists for the Ilonggo ballers, who were in complete command of the match since surging to a 29-point advantage,  65-36, at the break.

Zaionyl Rosano finished with 16 points, three rebounds and four steals, while Rey James Enriquez added 10 points, three rebounds and two steals but to no avail as the Cebu City selection stumbled for the second time in a row. – EBV
