CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters and Welec Trucking Services x AMC got off to flying starts in the Sinulog Cup 2025 Basketball Tournament on Tuesday night, January 21, at the Cebu Coliseum.
Ricofer Sordilla fired 20 points on top of two assists, one rebound, and a steal to power the Webmasters to a 79-74 beating of the Cebu City selection.
Luther Leonard added 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block while Steven Ursal scored seven with 14 rebounds for the Webmasters, who used a 10-0 blitz to take full control of the match with a 66-56 advantage early in the final period.
Zaionyl Rosano tallied 18 markers, six boards, and two steals, while Karl Cabulao and Jeff Gudes finished with 12 points apiece but their effort went down the drain for the Cebu City squad.
On the other hand, the star-studded Welec slammed Team Frasco of Liloan, 95-77.
2023 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) MVP Kent Ivo Salarda paced Welec with 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Ivan Clark Alsola and Zylle Cabellon, Salarda s teammates with the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers that bagged a grandslam crown in last years CESAFI Season 24, also figured prominently.
Alsola came up with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Cabellon chipped in with 13 points and four assists.
Not to be outdone, former CESAFI 3-Point King Froilan Mangubat cashed in 15 points laced with five rebounds and two assists for the dominant Welec, which at one point led by 30 points, 70-40, late in the third frame.
Earl Jethro Tautho and Uri Avila were the only double-digit scorers for Team Frasco with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
