CEBU, Philippines — The young but promising hardcourt warriors of Professional Youth Fellowship Basketball Advocacy (PYFBA) turned back the Atty. Dico team, 79-74, in their sudden-death final match to emerge as Under 16 champions in Division 1 of the 2024 Cebu Youth Basketball League (CYBL) Developmental Conference at the old Sacred Heart School gym along General Maxilom Avenue in Cebu City recently.
It’s a big improvement for the Talisay City-based PYBFA, which reigned supreme in Division 2 last season.
Trailing by three points, 36-39, at halftime, the PYFBA ballers under the guidance of coaches John Relosa and Alex Roa battled back with aplomb to forge a 58-all deadlock after three quarters.
PYFBA then showed great team effort in the crucial stretch to walk away with the coveted crown via a thrilling five-point victory.
Byron Alcover shepherded PYFBA to title glory with 21 points while Xerex Saberon added 17 markers.
Anton Campaner chipped in with 11 points while Christian Migallos and Jersey Nino Llacuna also made their presence felt after tallying 16 points in between them for PYFBA.
The other members of the PYFBA U16 champions are Khlint VJ Rosal, Niethan Malinao, Miguel Contreras, John Luis Malabosa, Hanz Zedric Bensig, Lance Suson, Ernelexis Aldave, and Jhon Canumay. — (FREEMAN)
