CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters have been a dominant force in table tennis since the inception of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) in 2000.

For nearly a quarter of a century, UC kept that winning tradition after the Webmasters swept all four titles available in the CESAFI Season 24 table tennis tournament at the Benedicto College (BC)-Cebu City Campus gym over the weekend.

Behind the efforts of Andrie Caballes, Kent Edwin Abellanosa, Rafael David Misa,  Levhin Villanueva, and Patrick Ladera, the Webmasters outclassed the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) to emerge as champion in the men’s college division.

In the women’s side, UC bannered by Mikylla Therese Dinauanao, Allana Felize Salar, Sheramie Damuag, Kristienne Kaye Alicaya, and Leah Agbon subdued the University of San Carlos (USC) to grab the coveted crown.

UC’s high school bets were similarly impressive on the way to pull off another golden double.

Melanie Galeon, Ayesha Caballes, Miguela Honoridez, Christianne Gelbolingo, and Hadley Go powered UC over the USC-Basic Education in the finals to reign supreme in the girls class.

Likewise, UC topped the boys category after edging USC-BED, thanks to remarkable performance of Gabriel David Misa,  Joaquin Enzo Holgado, Arian Caballes, Clint Stephen Maquira, and Marc Damuel Letigio.

“Dedication to train, school’s support, and prayers - these are the key ingredients to our success,” said UC Athletic Director Jessica Jawad-Honoridez, who is a legendary table tennis coach.

“I thank Atty. Gus Go and Ms. Candice Gotianuy for their continued support and trust in the department’s sports programs particularly in table tennis,” Honoridez added.

“I thank the parents too for the love and support to their children and believing in UC academically and ‘pingpongly’. To our dedicated and passionate coaches, daghang salamat! Congratulations to the players, you all deserved to be called champions.” — (FREEMAN)
