Discernment

The Yulos have not yet reconciled, even if they were offered a large sum to kiss and make up. Or maybe they stepped back exactly because money was dangled. Except for painful issues of inheritance and support, there is no price to harmony among family, even if cash caused the rift.

It would never look good if they did. It confirms it’s all about money, after all. Although subject to rare exceptions, everyone has a price. Anyone who says you can’t buy them actually means you can’t buy them cheap.

But really, the money offered means well. But again, only time will tell. It may not solve everything, but it sure heals many things, including wounds that don’t bleed.

But at least they’re quiet now. Although Carlos has been loud and proud with his fashion and ugh, dancing and other antics in between. Meanwhile, his younger brother slowly makes his presence felt in the sport his big brother brought the country to glory. It runs in the family, even in the midst of disunity.

Leave them alone, none of them is home alone anyway. The golden boy found a home away from home, either inside the high-end condominium upgraded after he doubled the gold, or in the company of a woman he left his family for, according to the mother at least.

Exactly what happens when parents disapprove their children’s choice of a life partner. Children, who are adults by then, tend to defend their choice, and to their parents they never listen, regardless of wisdom, especially If they say bad things about them.

Of course parents mean well, they are impassioned by the best of intentions. But once they antagonize to disapprove, or disapprove to antagonize, expect the children, who are again, adults, to run away from them. They simply refuse their judgment replaced by another, even if it’s the woman who birthed them.

Disapprove quietly with loud guidance. Tell them not to rush the dance. Almost always, the first love, or at least what they feel is, merely makes them experience the pain and joy of loving. For, the second, third or nth time does not guarantee it is the last, or will last, even if bound by a permanent contract called marriage.

It is a gamble. Whether the chosen one is worth the risk is the only question. Just as the country that claims to have perfected democracy has chosen the one. Whether it is the right one, history will judge their wisdom. For, democracy only works when the electorate properly and intelligently exercise their freedom and power of choice. It includes intelligence before and vigilance after.

But again, whose standard of propriety and intelligence prevails is answered by majority, after election count the heads, not the brains. Choice is personal, it is the hardest to replace, no matter how dumb or stupid. Or especially if it is, either or both.
