UC Webmasters gun for win No.4

CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters hope to maintain their position on top of the totem pole when they take on the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 basketball tournament today (Sunday, October 20) at the Cebu Coliseum.

Sporting an immaculate 3-0 slate, the Webmasters shoot for the solo lead in the college division in their 5 p.m. duel against the Warriors, who will try to sustain their momentum after snapping out of their four-game losing skein.

In the juniors level, the two-time defending champions Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles and the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons are expected to figure in a battle royale at 2 p.m.

The Grand Slam-seeking Magis Eagles are  currently in a three-way tie with the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars and the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers on identical 4-1 win-loss records, while the Dragons are at solo second spot with a 5-1 card.

Like the Magis Eagles, the Baby Jaguars also shoot for their fifth victory as they collide with the 3-1 University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers in the third game at 3:30 p.m.

In the 12:30 p.m opener, the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) is itching to end its five-game jinx when it tackles the 1-4 Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC)-Cebu Greywolves.

Meanwhile, in yesterday’s action, the Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) Baby Wildcats shrugged off a sluggish start to turn back the University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warriors, 70-62.

Ryko John Batuigas sizzled with 22 points, five rebounds, two assists, and three steals, Cyrus Joeff Abadies scored 15 points laced with six boards, and two dimes, while Kieff Russel Suarez chipped in with 13 markers and seven rebounds as the Baby Wildcats improved to 3-2 while sending the listless Baby Warriors to their fifth consecutive loss.

In other result, the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Baby Mustangs finally barged into the win column with an 81-67 drubbing of the Benedicto College (BC) Baby Cheetahs.

Aldrin Slar dropped 18 points while Brent Teshawn Cuyno and Karl John Agravante combined for 31 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists to help the Baby Mustangs end their four-game hex. — (FREEMAN)
