CEBU, Philippines — Cebuano basketball player Gestur Lorenz Canonigo felt proud and happy after winning his first championship title with the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Brigadiers.
Just recently, Canonigo and the Brigadiers stunned the De La Salle-Zobel Junior Archers, 75-73, in their thrilling final match to grab the Under 19 crown of the Metro Manila Basketball Championships (MMBC):1st Edmundo Badolato Cup at the San Beda Mendiola Gym.
It was a sweet redemption of sort for the Brigadiers, who bowed down to the Junior Archers in the elimination round.
The Brigadiers bounced back with aplomb, securing a big win over the Philippine Christian University (PCU) Baby Dolphins that sent them to the final.
“It feels surreal to be part of the champion team. My first to be part of the winning team here in Manila is such a wonderful feeling and of course a very helpful experience for me personally to be a better player,” said the 18-year-old Canonigo, a native of Minglanilla town who is now on his second season as a Brigadier.
“I thank God for the win and for giving us this victory. It inspires me more to improve my game and contribute significantly to the team,” added the former University of San Carlos (USC) Baby Warrior.
