USPF pulls off twinkill in CESAFI

CEBU, Philippines — Teams from the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) scored a twinkill in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 24 basketball tournament on Tuesday night, September 24, at the Cebu Coliseum.

In the college division, the USPF Panthers unleashed a fierce endgame attack to turn back the University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors, 60-53.

The Panthers were down by two, 51-53, late in the final period but closed the match with a decisive 9-0 rally to stun the Warriors.

Peter John Peteros, who shot 7-of-12 from the field including a pair of 3-pointers, paced the Panthers with 16 points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal. He got huge support from Paul Apolonio and Neon Chavez.

Apolonio produced a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Chavez also finished with 13 points laced with three boards and six dimes.

James Gica was the lone double-digit scorer for the Warriors with 12 points.

It was a rousing double victory for USPF as in high school play earlier, the Baby Panthers sent the Benedicto College Baby Cheetahs staggering to their second straight loss.

Champ Brigoli fired 22 points on top of four rebounds and five assists to spearhead the Baby Panthers 93-79 drubbing of the Baby Cheetahs.
