ARQ Builders log back-to-back wins in MPBA Season 3

CEBU, Philippines — The ARQ Builders coasted to their second straight win but had to pass through some scary moments first before fending off Matia’s Foodhaus, 73-71, in the Mandaue’s Pride Basketball Association (MPBA) Commissioner’s Cup Season 3 on Saturday, August 24, at the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) gym.

Ian Ortega sizzled with 18 points on top of nine rebounds and four assists, while Jestony Baclaan added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists as ARQ assumed the solo lead in Elite Division with a clean 2-0 slate.

Kyle Dajalos exploded for 27 points but his singular offensive outburst went for naught at Matia’s suffered its first loss in two starts.

In the Premiere Division, Team Void and the Flago Prayboys both improved their records to 2-1 in contrasting fashion.

 The Void squad easily dismantled Slowgrind, 108-59, while the Prayboys overcame a huge endgame collapse to escape with a thrilling 82-79 victory over Urestore.

Jhon Rey Gequilan netted 22 points, five rebounds, and four assists, Joshua Ybañez pumped in 16 markers, while James Balili and Isiah Nanoy each scored 12 in Void’s 49-point blowout of Slowgrind.

On the other hand, Kenny Genobia and Stephon Gonzales connived for 33 points, six rebounds, and seven assists for the Prayboys. Kibs Genobia added 14 points and nine boards while Mark Yaun chipped in with 10 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and three steals.
