Busy day for Pinoy athletes in Paris

CEBU, Philippines — Four Filipino  athletes brace for a busy schedule at the Paris Olympics 2024 today (Saturday, August 3).

Boxer Nesthy Petecio will first climb into the ring at 3:30 a.m. (Philippine time) against Amina Zidani of host France in the women’s 57kg round of 16.

In the evening, Carlo Paalam will slug it out with Charlie Senior of Australia in the men’s 57kg quarterfinals set at 9:46 p.m.

If ever victorious, Paalam will not only reach the semis but also assure himself of at least a bronze medal.

At 4 p.m, Ernest John Obiena will see action in the men’s pole vault qualification of athletics competition where he is listed among the top favorites to make a podium finish.

All eyes will then be on gymnast Carlos Yulo as he competes in the men’s floor exercise finals starting at 9:30 p.m. hoping to deliver a medal for the Philippines after landing only at 12th place in the all-around event.

On Sunday (August 4), Yulo has another chance to produce a medal for the country in his pet event, the men’s vault of artistic gymnastics. (CEBU NEWS)
