Webmasters rule Anta 4x4 basketball tourney

CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters are on a roll.

Two weeks after reigning supreme in an open basketball tournament in Surigao, the Webmasters basked in another title glory.

This after the Webmasters of coach Kenneth Kernn Sesante dominated the Visayas leg of Anta’s full-court 4x4 tilt that featured an all-UC final on Saturday, July 6, at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

UC-B powered by Zareygel Rosano, Jhiey Paraldo, Luther Leonard, John Carl Angelio, and Ricofer Sordilla edged its sister-team UC-A  via a close 21-19 decision to emerge as champion.

On its way to the final, UC-B defeated Team Khalifa-B, Naga-A, UC-D, and the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges (CRMC) Mustangs-A.

As first runner-up though, Danie Boy Lapiz, Jasper Pacaña, Mark Jhon Ecal, Jepherson Nonol, and Mc Steven Ursal will still be joining their UC teammates to the National Finals slated on August 18 at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City, Metro Manila.

A new experience for players, 4-on-4 basketball has a new format and set of rules.

In 4x4 set-up, only four players can play per team with one sub available. Anything shot inside the arc counts as one point, and shots beyond the arc count as two.

There is no backcourt violation, and a game ends when a team scores 21 points or when the 15-minute game clock runs out.
