SHAABAA playoffs: Batch 2013, 2014 clinch top two spots in Division C
CEBU, Philippines — The defending champion Nest Workspaces Batch 2013 and Cebu Landmasters/CouldKart Batch 2014 ended their elimination round campaigns on a high note to clinch the top two spots going into the Division C playoffs of the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) Season 27 on Sunday, June 30, at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles Arena in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Fletcher Galvez fired 22 points on top of 10 rebounds, four blocks, two steals, and one assist, Rendell Senining added 21 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and two steals while Arc Araw-araw chipped in 16 points, eight boards, and six dimes as Batch 2013 pummeled the Global Star Motors Batch 2020, 77-58.
On the other hand, Jair Igna and Popoy Navarro connived for 33 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and three steals as Batch 2014 annihilated Bright Lamps N’ Style Batch 2022, 89-49.
Batch 2013 and Batch 2014 are actually tied with identical 6-1 win-loss records but Batch 2013 came out as the top seed heading into the Final Four by virtue of the winner over the other rule.,
The Forex Xchange Batch 2018 and FADI Batch 2021 completed the four-team semis cast in Division C.
Jed Colonia tallied 19 markers, five rebounds, and six steals, Benedict Andre Chua dished out another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Xavier Tariman and Christian Manaytay scored 12 points apiece as Batch 2018 pounded CSAS Batch 2024, 72-58.
Rey Marcus Fuentes produced a scintillating 24-point show spiked wiht four rebounds and four assists, Virgil Maynard Uy banged in 15 points and four rebounds while Joshua Uribe and Walter Franz Yu netted 13 points each as Batch 2021 bested GAB Airconditioning Batch 2023, 81-74.
In the knockout semis scheduled on July 21, Batch 2013 will lock horns with Batch 2021, while Batch 2014 will go up against Batch 2018. — (FREEMAN)
