CEBU, Philippines — 2nd Rey Gealon chessfest set todaySome of Cebu’s top chess players will once again test each other’s mettle in the 2nd Councilor ReyGealon Chess Tournament scheduled today (Sunday, June 30) at the Cebu Chess Club located at the fourth floor of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Over P30,000 in cash prize is at stake for the top finishers of the 9-round Swiss system competition sponsored by Cebu City Councilor Atty. Rey Gealon in collaboration with the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) headed by its longtime president Engr. Jerry Maratas.
The champion will go home P7,000 richer, while the second to fifth will pocket P5,000 P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively. The sixth to 10th will get P700 each, while the 11th to 15th will take P500 apiece.
A P1,000 bonus will be handed out to the top collegiate finisher (Under 22), P700 to the top Cepcans A and B and lady player, and P500 to the top senior (60-above) and kiddies (boy and girl 10 Under).
Game starts at 10 a.m. under supervision of National Arbiters Edwin Cablao and Kevin Yap of the Cebu School of Chess.
