CEBU, Philippines — The University of Cebu (UC) is giving away cash incentives of P200,000 each to their prized weightlifters Elreen Ann Andro and John Febuar Ceniza for qualifying in the Paris Olympics 2024 set this July.
Their coaches Christopher Bureros and Ramon Solis will receive the same amount.
This was jointly announced by UC Chairman Atty. Augusto “Gus” W. Go and President Candice Gotianuy in a press conference on Monday, April 15.
They were joined by UC Athletic Director Jessica-Jawad Honoridez.
“Disbelief! Kanang di ka ka-imagine gani nga ma-happen ni siya. Shocked, surprised, tanan. Murag wapa na process. It’s so big nga achievement nila, mura’g damgo lang,” said Gotianuy.
“Instead of usa, duha pa gyud kabuok!” Go chimed in. “Like my daughter, I’m shocked but very pleased to learn that. It’s a proud moment for Cebu and the University of Cebu…World-class Cebuano and from UC! ”
Aside from the cash gift, Go also promised to provide whatever support they can for Ando and Ceniza in their quest for glory in the prestigious tournament that takes place only once ever four years.
Right there and then, the two lifters got an added motivation to shoot for top honors in Paris Games after Gotianuy promised a P1 million incentive if they make it to the top three in their category.
