CEBU, Philippines — A day after absorbing its first loss, Abante Minglanilla swiftly bounced back and vented its ire on Blissful Sibonga in decisive fashion, 84-69, at the end of elimination round in the Rhea Gullas Cup 2024 First District of Cebu Inter-City/Municipality Sports Festival on Sunday night, February 25, at the Carcar City Sports Complex.
Christian Andrew Amaba unloaded 17 points, while Isaac Dave Ocaba, JC Rex Sanguenza, and Joseph Alicaya combined for 31 markers as Minglanilla sealed the No.1 spot and a twice-to-beat incentive going into the crossover semifinals.
Minglanilla was actually tied with Talisay Aksyon Agad on identical 4-1 win-loss records but the former gained top seeding by virtue of winner-over-the-other rule.
Talisay ended its campaign as the second qualifier after a 74-53 thrashing of the ousted defending champion San Fernando Buffalos, thanks to a great team effort led by John Mark Lasola and Kristian Henry Alejandrino who cashed in 12 points apiece.
Thus, Mingnilla and Talisay will enjoy twice-to-beat advantage against Naga Atong Garbo and Sidlak Carcar, respectively, in the semis this weekend.
Carcar secured the third spot after crushing Naga, 76-64, behind the one-two punch of Julius Tipon and Jethro RJ Sagolili who connived for 35 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four steals.
