CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) is bringing back its monthly tournament starting on Sunday, February 25, at Robinsons Galleria Cebu. Game time starts at 1p.m.
The longest existing chess organization outside of Manila has been holding regular tournaments even at the height of the pandemic via online platform but this is the first time in three years that they’re doing it over the board on a monthly basis.
Spearheaded by longtime CEPCA President Engr. Jerry Maratas, the one-day tilt following the five-round Swiss system format is open only to Cepcans, seniors, ladies, and kiddie (12 Under) players.
Class A participants are given five minutes with a two-minute increment for each game while the others have a 10-minute playtime.
The champion will pocket P1,200, the second and third placers will receive P500 and P300, respectively, while the fourth and fifth will take home P200 each.
Just like in the past, the top two finishers will advance to the grand finals billed as the “Battle of Champions” that serves as CEPCA’s year-ending event this December.
Registration fee is pegged at P100. Slots are limited to only 50 on a first come, first served basis.
