CEBU, Philippines — The unbeaten University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters breezed through their sixth straight win with a 73-57 drubbing of the Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (CESAFI) Season 23 Men's Basketball Tournament on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.

John Carl Angelio sparkled with 12 points while Luther Leonard and John Herben Linares contributed 10 markers apiece as the Webmasters jumped back to the solo lead in the college division with an unblemished 6-0 slate, their biggest start ever in the league's 23-year history.

Ahead by just a hairline early on , 17-16, the Webmasters pulled away in the middle quarters before closing the match with an 18-11 scoring edge to seal a 16-point romp.

Kyle Maglinte was the lone twin digit-scorer with 16 points for the Cobras, who suffered third fifth setback in six games.

In the other collegiate duel, the Felipe R. Verallo Foundation College (FRVFC) Blue Dragons outclassed the University of the Philippines (UP)-Cebu Fighting Maroons, 66-60, for their first ever win in Cebu's premiere inter-school athletic league.

Under the command of veteran coach Titing Manalili, the Blue Dragons jumped to a strong 16-12 start, and then scorched the Fighting Maroons with a searing 22-10 run in the second canto to establish a comfortable 16-point lead at halftime, 38-22, which they never relinquished until the final buzzer.

The Fighting Maroons  put up a good challenge at the endgame but the Blue Dragons kept their poise and compure when the game was on the line to secure the historic triumph.

Keann Terrence Planco topscored with 14 points, while John Ernie Gellego added 12 markers as the Blue Dragons finally snapped out of their six-game jinx.

In the juniors division, the City of Bogo Science and Arts Academy (CBSAA) Trailblazers and the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters  annihilated their respective foes.

Franz Albao and Felix Rogasajo bannered six players in double figures with 20 points apiece as the Trailblazers pulverized the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) Greywolves into smithereens in an eye-popping 133-40 blowout.

June Brian Alipato banged in 16 markers, Anfernny Illustrisimo scored 14, while Karl Dosdos and Goldwin Galorio connived for 22 points as the Trailblazers from the City of Bogo in northern Cebu registered the second most lopsided victory in the annals of CESAFI.

CBSAA's  93-point obliteration of Don Bosco is just 13 points shy from the all-time record set by the University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers when they massacred the Greywolves by 106 points, 142-36, way back in 2014.

In the other one-sided battle of the day, the Baby Webmasters slaughtered the Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT-U) Baby Wildcats,  82-35.

Jayver Palco unloaded 18 points, Gemini Abellana Jr. tossed in 16 markers , while Lourdonie Cuyos contributed 14 points as the UC boys of coach Joever "Brad" Samonte grabbed the solo fourth spot in the standings with an improved 4-1 win-loss record. — (FREEMAN)
