Cebu Safari rules Badbeat Basketball League Season 2
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Safari and Adventure Park outclassed Oninz Trading, 91-79, in their sudden-death final match to clinch the championship title of the Badbeat Basketball League Season 2 last Sunday night at the Sacred Heart Center Sports Club.
Jake Subita bannered four Cebu Safari players in double figures with 17 points to romp away with the Finals MVP award.
Season MVP Christian Bejoc banged in 16 points, while Johnfit Banzon and Clark Ivan Peñas chipped in with 14 and 11 markers, respectively, for Cebu Safari, which used a sizzling second-quarter rally to seize full control of the match.
Oninz Trading was ahead by two, 19-17, after the first 10 minutes of play but Cebu Safari countered with a 24-17 run to wrest the driver’s seat at halftime, 41-36.
Cebu Safari grew even hotter in the third period to pad its lead to as much as 16 points.
Behind the efforts of Jayson Pajamutang, Oninz Trading pulled within just five points but that was the best they could muster as Subita, Banzon, and Bejoc put their acts together to quickly restore Cebu Safari’s 14-point advantage for good.
Pajamutang came up with a game-high 24 points but his singular offensive outburst proved futile for Oninz Trading.
After a two-month break, Badbeat Basketball founder and commissioner Mardion Delima said they will kick off the league’s third season this November. — (FREEMAN)
