City repairs artesian wells to augment water supply

CEBU, Philippines —  With an ample water supply still a problem in Cebu City, the city’s Department of Public Services (DPS) continues to repair artesian wells here via the City Hall at Your Door Step.

DPS personnel were last seen repairing an artesian well in Barangay Mabini.

After the city was hit by Typhoon Odette, many Cebuanos had to resort to getting water from artesian wells.

There are many artesian wells around, but many are no longer functional.

Aside from doing repairs, earlier, the City Council had also requested DPS and the General Services Office (GSO) to conduct an inventory of all the artesian wells owned by the city government and to have the data gathered and be incorporated into the database of the Geographic Information System (GIS).

Councilor Joy Pesquera said that the city government has been a donee of a number of parcels of land, which were utilized in constructing artesian wells on the donated land.

Meanwhile, the residents of Barangay Mabini were also able to avail of free medical and dental consultations; random blood testing; blood sugar typing; legal assistance on birth, marriage, and death certificates, among others via the City Hall at Your Doorsteps.

The program is the city government's way of bringing the services of its 27 departments to the barangay for free instead of the residents going around different offices for help and assistance.

Aside from the different departments under the City Hall, some national government agencies had also been participating in some areas. — GMR (FREEMAN)
