CEBU, Philippines — Dancesport-Team Cebu City dominated with authority the 24th Philippine Dancesport Federation (PDSF) National Dancesport Championship and Southeast Asian (SEA) Games Selection for 2023 staged last October 29-30 at the Philsports Arena along Meralco Avenue in Pasig City.
In all, the graceful TCC dance athletes hauled nine gold, nine silver, and four bronze medals spotlighted by a clean sweep in the Latin A category where they took the first to sixth spots behind the efforts of Andrew Ysla, Noelyn Thwaites, Du Dong, Joy Dumosmog Jefferson, Zamora Pimentel, and Mary Desiree Awa Seraga.
Most importantly, the Cebuanos claimed the only two slots available for Latin event in the 32nd SEA Games courtesy of Angelo Marquez and Stephanie Sabalo, and Wilbert Fajardo Aunzo and Pearl Caneda who were selected to represent the country in the biennial sports conclave set next year in Cambodia.
Eleanor Hayco and John Paul Mocorro, on the other hand, came up with a golden double in the Latin teacher-student special event 3C and 3A.
Likewise, Jacob Dylan Esmero and Sofia Isabella Maree Quilaton produced a pair of gilts in the Latin junior C and A (3-5 dances).
The other golden performers for Dancesport-TCC were Shardie Abellana and Marjorie Abellana in Grade C Latin couple, Jasmer Labitad and Loraine Mae Pacana in Latin special event 1F, and Mary Ann Mata and Ric Russell Abao in Latin DepEd Teacher-2 dance category.
“It was our vision, dream and plan 10 years ago, to dominate the championship,” said Cebu City Sports Commission (CSCC) dancesport director Ed Hayco. “It wasn’t easy. Took a lot of effort, planning, sacrifice, initiatives, strategy, and a bag full of patience.”
“This is a result of an intensive grassroots sports development program implemented within public school system. It’s a long term strategy that should be adopted by other sports disciplines,” Hayco ended.
