Sarok Weavers lock top spot heading into PSL U21 semis
CEBU, Philippines — The defending champion Consolacion Sarok Weavers ended their elimination round campaign with a nerve-racking 87-86 win over the San Fernando Buffalos in the 2022 Pilipinas Super League (PSL) 21 Under-VisMin leg yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Institute (CCSI) in Barangay Sawang Calero.
With an 8-1 win-loss record, the Sarok Weavers sealed the No.1 spot going into the Visayas division semifinals where they will face again the Buffalos and the Sherilin-Unisol Mandaue City Plastic Men.
The three qualifiers will play another round robin to determine the Visayas finalists that will also advance to the National Championships later this month.
Paolo Dalumpines paced the Sarok Weavers with 18 points, three rebounds and eight assists. Rovello Robles added 16 points and five rebounds while Matthew Flores and Froiland Maglasang tossed in 11 markers apiece in the cliff-hanger.
Jhony Lyster Mamalia and Adrian each scored 16 while Osias Andrew Padilla and Joseph Art Nalos connived for 23 points for the Buffalos, who still advanced to the semis with a 4-5 card.
Even if Asturias prevails over the Lapu-Lapu City Pantum in their 11 a.m. match today and forge a 4-5 tie with San Fernando, the Buffalos would still make it to the next round by virtue of a simple tie having beaten the Corn Ranchers, 82-66, last July 22.
