Araneta leads rousing KO sweep of Omega fighters
CEBU, Philippines — Light flyweight prospect Christian “The Bomb” Araneta led a clean 4-0 sweep by the spirited Omega Gym fighters, all via knockout, in last Friday’s “Kumbati 11” fight card of Omega Sports Promotions at the IPI Sports and Recreational Complex in Barangay Tingub, Mandaue City.
The 26-year-old Araneta needed just two minutes and 25 seconds to destroy journeyman Arnold “Destroyer” Garde of Davao City. It was his second straight first round KO victory since he easily dismantled Richard Claveras of Silay City last July.
Araneta thus improved his record to 20-2 now spiked with 16KOs. Garde dropped to 10-11-3 after suffering his fifth loss in a row.
In a showdown of super featherweight power-hitters, Tomjune “War Dog” Mangubat stopped Allan Villanueva in 2:49 of round seven. Mangubat now holds a 14-2-1 slate with 12KOs while Villanueva tasted his only second defeat in 13 bouts with 8KOs.
The rest of the results saw Franco Serafica (7-1) demolishing John Kennan Villaflor (8-8-4) at 2:54 of the seventh round and Benny Canete stretching his perfect mark to 4-0 with a rousing first round stoppage of Mark Jequinto (4-8-1). — EBV
