Overlimit rules International Jiujitsu Open
CEBU, Philippines — The spirited grapplers from Overlimit Jiujitsu Association ruled the 2019 ASJJF Philippine International Jiujitsu Open over the weekend at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu atrium.
Spearheaded by Japanese blackbelter Edison Kagohara, Overlimit claimed the overall championship after topping three of four events, the masters, adults and kids.
ATOS wound up second overall, while Deftac Ribeiro settled for third.
ATOS, composed of fighters from South Korea, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan, prevented Overlimit from scoring a clean sweep by lording it over the No Gi event.
Aside from the local bets, the two-day tournament was participated in by elite fighters from Asia and Russia.
Despite the stiff competition, Cebuanos strut their wares well.
Some of the gold medallists were Althea Mondigo, Princess Lourdes Bacatan, Hannah Gabiana, Dominic Miala and Andrei Cuizon of Overlimit, Josh Ybañez, Jeb Sleyther Secusana, Bianne Labra, Claire Canete, Jake Conado, Sandino Cinco and Jamie Boy Fabula of ATOS, Gabrielle Benavidez of PATO, and Rhyle Lugo of Deftac.
