CEBU, Philippines — It’s green and go for the creation of the Toledo City Sports Commission, with its thrust anchored mainly on sports tourism.
Toledo’s pride Marites Bitbit, a decorated pedal-pusher who is now the Philippine women’s cycling team head coach, said the city council has already approved the formation of sports commission.
Toledo City Mayor Zoie Perales is also fully supporting the establishment of such body.
Last week, Toledo sent representatives to the Philippine Road Cycling Championships.
Toledo’s bets may have missed a podium, but Bitbit said it was a successful debut for the young cyclists under coach Nilo Barbalose.
The Toledo cycling team will continue its training and hopes to join more big events in the future.
On the other hand, Perales has also given Bitbit the go signal to bid for the hosting of the National Championships next year.
If this pushes through, it will be the first time that the national championships will be staged in Cebu.
